The Indiana Pacers traded guard Darren Collison and swingman Dahntay Jones to the Dallas Mavericks late Wednesday for center Ian Mahinmi via sign-and-trade, according to multiple reports. Mahinmi will sign a four-year, $16 million contract to complete deal.
Collison was acquired by the Pacers in 2010 to be the team’s point guard of the future before the Pacers traded for George Hill before the 2011-2012 season. The Pacers and Hill agreed to a five-year, $40 million contract extension earlier this off-season. Collison averaged 10.4 ppg and 4.8 apg for the Pacers last season in 60 games, including 56 starts.
Mahinmi, 25, emerged last season as a valuable reserve big man for the Mavs, averaging 5.8 ppg and 4.7 rpg in 18 minutes. The 6’11″ center from France will offer front court depth for the Pacers behind all-star center Roy Hibbert and power forward David West.
Jones was mostly used in a reserve role for the Pacers last season, averaging 5.3 ppg in only 16 minutes. Jones is in the final year of his contract with a value of $2.9 million.
