The Phoenix Suns have agreed to terms with free agent forward Michael Beasley on a three-year, $18 million contract. The signing of Beasley comes on the heels of the Suns sign-and-trade deal that sent PG Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Suns are also highly interested in free agent PG Goran Dragic.
Beasley spent the last two seasons of his career Minnesota after being traded to the Timberwolves by the Heat in 2010. Beasley averaged 11.5 ppg and 4.4 rpg in a reserve role last season after averaging 19.2 ppg as a starter in 2010-2011.
The Heat selected Beasley 2nd overall in 2008 but dealt him quickly due to Beasley’s off the court issues. Beasley was fined $50,000 for an incident involving marijuana in 2008 and later checked into a rehab facility in 2009.
Beasley is a versatile forward who can score in a variety of ways, both on the perimeter and in the post. For his career, Beasley has averages of 15.1 ppg and 5.6 rpg in four seasons.
