If you haven’t heard, recently signed NY Knicks point guard Jason Kidd was arrested over the weekend for a DWI after a wild night of partying in the Hamptons that resulted in him crashing into a light pole.

From the details of his antics and the looks of his mugshot and pics from the party, Kidd was having a grand ol’ time before his accident and subsequent arrest:

Kidd blew past a stop sign in ritzy Water Mill, L.I., about a mile and a a half from his $6 million summer home at 1:56 a.m. Sunday and skidded 25 feet into the woods, hitting several trees.

When cops showed up, he reeked of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet and had bloodshot and watery eyes, according to his arrest report on a drunk driving charge.

A photograph published by TMZ showed Kidd about an hour before the crash bent over and being held up by another man as he left the East Hampton nightclub SL East. The website reported that Kidd left the club after breaking a light fixture he tried to hang from.

It’s mind-boggling why multi-millionaires decide to risk driving home intoxicated instead of hiring a driver or simply calling a cab. Kidd plead not guilty to the DWI charges and was released Sunday, but the damage is already done.

Professional athletes need to be smarter than this and set better examples for the people that look up to them. Period.
