Brand was waived by the Sixers Thursday via the NBA’s amnesty clause, allowing teams to bid on a portion of the $18 million he was due on his contract for 2012-2013. Brand started 60 games for the Sixers last season, averaging 11 ppg and 7.2 rpg.
Brand will join Dirk Nowitzki in the Mavs front court, giving Dallas a post presence to compliment Nowitzki’s perimeter game. Brand was drafted no. 1 overall by the Bulls in 1999 and has averaged 18.3 ppg and 9.4 rpg so far in his 13-year career.
