With welterweight boxer Paul Williams (41-2-0 27 KOs) suffering a career-ending motorcycle accident Sunday May 28th, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (40-0-1 29 KOs) was left without an opponent for his September 15th bout in which Williams was the challenger. Doctors have said Williams may never walk again. WIlliams is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday.

Golden Boy promotions quickly secured a replacement for Williams in contender James Kirkland (31-1-0 27 KOs). Kirkland won his last fight against Carlos Molina when Molina’s corner entered the ring before the bell, leading to Molina being disqualified. Alvarez looked dominate in his last bout May 5th against Shane Mosley, where the 21-year old out punched the 40-year old Mosley for the entire 12 rounds.

A Alvarez-Kirkland match up has potential to be exciting for fans as both boxers utilize aggressive styles and will throw lots of punches, which could lead to knock downs for both fighters. Many analysts are predicting the fight to end in a knock out.
