Dwight Howard’s reputation has taken quite the hit in the past few months. His constant indecision and apparent lying about his role in the firing of Stan Van Gundy hasn’t exactly won over fans.

The next misstep by Howard comes from a report that he claims the Magic blackmailed him into signing his extension and that he is now demanding a trade to the Brooklyn Nets, only months after waiving his opt out clause with the Magic.

The irony is that had Dwight just opted out, he could have signed with the Nets without gutting their roster by forcing them to give up assets in a trade.

Obviously, according to Howard anyway, he only waived the opt out because of alleged blackmailing.

It’s only speculation, but my best guess is (if there is any validity to this claim) the Magic told Dwight they’d go public with his demands to fire SVG. Once SVG brought that fact to light himself, Dwight had nothing else to lose & no reason to stay.

Unfortunately for Dwight, he damaged his reputation much more than SVG or the Magic could ever have hoped to do.

But as ESPN has shown, no matter your past once you win a title you should be loved. So let’s see if Dwight gets the same treatment if he’s able to win one.
