As long time Atlanta Braves third baseman and future Hall of Famer Chipper Jones makes his last rounds through Major League Baseball’s cities and stadiums in his final season the tributes continue to take place. The St. Louis Cardinals showed their appreciation when Jones made his final stop at Busch Stadium. So did the Cincinnati Reds when Chipper and the Braves played a four-game series at Great American Ballpark.
The Braves are in Boston this weekend for three games versus the Red Sox and the team didn’t pass up the opportunity honor Chipper as me hakes his last appearances in Fenway Park.
Classy move and hats off to the Red Sox.
Today Jones will play in his 50th game against the Red Sox and 24th at Fenway. His career numbers heading into tonight were a .256 average with 17 runs, 3 home runs, and 9 RBI in the stadium that turned 100 years old this season. Against Boston Chipper has scored 32 runs, hit 8 home runs, and driven in 23 while batting .268.
The Braves return home for a ten-game home stand beginning next Tuesday before the Chipper Jones farewell tour heads to Philadelphia for three games against the Phillies before the All-Star break.
