ESPN is not exactly known for balanced, reasoned content these days. In fact, most personalities throw out the most asinine comments they can come up with just to get attention & stir the pot. It has also been fairly evident, that most of what they do (especially when they pound the same topic for literally 24 hours across all programming) is done with an ulterior motive in mind.

While sickening, I get most of that. But every now and then, out of the blue, they try to pound some idea into their viewer’s heads and I cannot determine why or why now.

Today, I caught a bit of Cowherd’s crappy show and noticed that he was trying to sell Romo as an elite QB. While this is not the first time (not long ago he said he’d take Romo over Aaron Rodgers so that’s about all you need to know in terms of his credibility on the topic), the timing struck me as odd.

I’m used to Cowherd making ridiculous and irrelevant arguments to support his take, but this argument is something entirely different. For instance, last week he kept pounding that LeBron is better than Dirk (DUH) and that Dirk isn’t as good as Larry Bird. If you’re confused, I’m illustrating his argument correctly. No one ever said Dirk was better than Larry Bird yet he spent countless minutes laying out why Bird was better. Ok….

Hs argument for why Romo is elite might be even worse. First, he said he’s “done everything except win a Super Bowl and a bunch of playoff games.” Oh, that’s it, huh?

Then he said he’s elite because Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl. Aside from ignoring the fact that Marino got to a Super Bowl and won other playoff games and that one isn’t related to the other, Marino’s numbers are in another stratosphere compared to Romo.

But that’s not all…. To top off his argument he went on to point out that Romo is better than Tebow. Yet again, that’s like saying water is wet. No one ever, outside maybe some freak Tebow fans, has suggested that Tebow is better than Romo. For that reason alone, the argument is irrelevant. Ignoring that even, being better than Tebow isn’t exactly holding a player to high standards. If being better than Tebow makes you “elite”, then there are about 30-40 elite QBs in the NFL.

But like I said, if you have the misfortune of listening to Cowherd with any regularity, you’ll quickly pick up on the asinine comparisons he makes to try to prove his points. Annoying and ridiculous that guys like this have national shows, but it is what it is….

The strange part today, is when First Take decided to debate whether Romo is or isn’t a top 5 NFL QB.

Aside from it being a stupid question, what is ESPN’s hard on with Romo today all about?

Romo is a very talented QB, but he’s not even close to Brady, Manning, Manning, Brees, Rodgers, or even Matthew Stafford as far as I’m concerned. Some people can debate Stafford, Cutler, Matt Ryan, Rivers, etc. vs Romo. But no one with a functional brain can debate the first 5 I listed.

So why is ESPN trying to sell Romo so hard?

Your guess is as good as mine…..
