ESPN NFL Reporter, Adam Schefter is typically very conservative, reserved & professional when on air.
He joined “Mike & Mike in the Morning” today though, and things were a bit different.
After discussing several NFL topics, Greenberg asked Schefter to expound upon a tweet made Tuesday saying Rex Ryan had lost 90 pounds.
Schefter’s response was a little more than the guys were anticipating.
“He had the lap band surgery, I don’t know when he had the surgery, but it was about a year ago. And he’s lost 90 pounds. 90 since then. That’s, that’s skipping a lot of God Damn Snacks if you know what I’m talking about.”
I’m not a moralist & language doesn’t bother me. But you certainly don’t expect to hear that kind of language on ESPN, from Schefter. And based on Greenberg’s reaction, you can tell they were taken aback a bit as well.
I’m guessing he’ll issue an apology soon.

Just writing this to bring attention to it marks you as someone bothered by it. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be particularly noteworthy. For what it’s worth, Schefter was quoting Rex Ryan on HBO’s Hard Knocks with the Jets. I’m shocked that one goddamn is article-worthy. God forbid we sully the virgin ears of SPORTS FANS.
Also, nice to see Schefter grow some goddamn balls and have a personality once in a while. Guy’s usually a goddamn wind factory.
This is the same organization that fired an overnight headline writer from their website for using “Chink in the Armor” in an article about Jeremy Lin.
I’m not sure what L.C.’s vision of “sports fans” is, but there are sports fans from every part of society, many of whom would be offended by hearing those words on a radio/tv show known for being pretty conservative and family friendly.
Listening to Greenberg flounder after Schefty said what he did shows that it was certainly unexpected, if not shocking, even to him. Mike & Mike scooted past it and the whole comment was ignored until about 30 minutes later (the amount of time it took the lawyers to come up with a statement) when they issued an apology on their behalf and that of Schefter.
The comment was crude, but in context, but he shouldn’t have gone there. He could just as easily have said “blankety-blank” and the point would have been made that he was mocking Ryan’s foul mouthed ways.
