The minute the world learned of Tim Tebow being traded to the Jets people started anticipating a QB controversy. Not only is Tebow loved by many fans & media, but Mark Sanchez is routinely the subject of great criticism.

Many people speculated that the controversy might start on Sanchez’s first 3 & out or his first interception.

Well… Maybe it will start a little sooner than that.

All-Universe cornerback, Darrelle Revis (who is no stranger to controversy with his holdout a couple years ago & hints at another), spoke to ESPN New York about their newest QB.

“He’s a born leader, he really is.”

“Very few athletes have the gift he has. He tries to lead by example all the time. He tries to be positive, which is awesome, and that [has resulted] in his success on the field. . . .

“Some people have it, some guys don’t. It’s the passion within, wanting to be a leader, wanting to win. You see it all the time, eating lunch, walking down the hallway. You see it.”

These comments are a bit funny given Revis’ initial reaction to the Tebow trade. He admitted on the SVP show that he wasn’t thrilled about it & it would result in a “circus”.

Maybe he changed his mind after meeting & being around Tebow. That’s fine. But the telling thing, is since the arrival of Sanchez, even amidst great criticism & questions about Sanchez’s abilities & leadership… You never heard Revis publicly defend or praise him like this.

Or maybe he did & we didn’t hear about it like we hear about every single nugget involving Timmy.

But the way he says “some people have it, some guys don’t”, to me, is no accident.

I don’t want to speculate & put words in his mouth, but if he didn’t mean it as calling out Sanchez for lacking those qualities then he should have been a little more careful with his words.
