Prior to 2010 not many people knew who Milwaukee Brewers pitcher John Axford was. Since then he has become one of the more reliable closers in Major League Baseball. He’s also gained notoriety for his mustache.
In 2010 Axford went 8-2 with 24 saves and a 2.48 ERA. He followed that up by recording a National League leading 46 saves last year and posting a 1.95 ERA, which helped him win the NL’s Rolaids Relief Man Award.
Yesterday, Axford’s streak of 49 consecutive converted saves came to an end against the Chicago Cubs. After the game he was not available to the media to talk about it, but he did leave this note explaining why.
Works for me. Congrats!
And don’t worry about the blown save John, it happens to the best of ‘em….*cliche*
