Last night the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Phoenix Coyotes in overtime of game 5 of the NHL’s Western Conference Finals to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for just the second time as a franchise. Wayne Gretzky was a member of the Kings in 1993 and his daughter Paulina, who was recently named in the 2012 Maxim Hot 100 list, was just four years old.
With the Lakers always a huge presence, the Clippers making the NBA playoffs for the first time since the 2005-2006 season, and the Dodgers playing well to start the season the Kings have been on the lower end of the L.A. sports totem pole during their recent playoff run.
Local station KNBC posted a graphic during a segment about L.A.’s pro sports teams currently in the playoffs that mistakenly showed a Sacramento Kings logo instead of the logo of the L.A. Kings.
The Lakers and Clippers have both been eliminated from the NBA playoffs leaving the Kings as the last Los Angeles team standing. The stage is now theirs and members of L.A.’s sporting landscape are showing their support.
It’s always good when pro sports franchises in the same city support one another. Earlier this year we saw the Baltimore Ravens post this photo on their Facebook page regarding opening day of their downtown neighbors, the Baltimore Orioles.
