It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Jeff Van Gundy is unhappy with the Magic for the handling of firing his brother, Stan Van Gundy. But he’s right.
And he held nothing back when joining Stephen A. Smith on air.
JVG called out Magic exec, Alex Martins for spending the day in the office with SVG and then waiting for him to leave before firing him over the phone.
It certainly seems a bit unprofessional & cowardly to fire Stan that way when you had ample opportunity to speak to him face to face.
JVG even took offense to Martins calling Stan “the best Xs & Os coach he’s seen in his career”.
JVG made no secret about his opinion of Martins, saying he “knows nothing about basketball”.
Finally, JVG called out the Magic for trying to hide the fact that Dwight Howard was the primary motivation behind the firing.
The Magic have mishandled this situation from day 1 (as has Dwight). Even though JVG is upset with the Magic, I have a feeling Stan is happy to be gone.
