Former major league MVP Vladimir Guerrero was arrested Tuesday for his involvement in a bar brawl in the Dominican Republic, according to this report from the Dominican Today. Guerrero allegedly assaulted a police officer. Here are some details:
The National Police on Tuesday announced an all points bulletin for the arrest of Major League Baseball star Vladimir Guerrero, for the alleged aggression against to a Police major Renato Peña and for unleashing a brawl in a discotheque.
South Region Police director Juan Ramon de la Cruz Martinez announced the surrender of Vladimir Guerrero Tuesday morning.
The senior officer said he personally arrested two of Guerrero’s bodyguards. “No one is above the law. Guerrero and the others will be charged for the incident which left one injured.”
As expected, members of Guerrero’s circle say the former outfielder and designated hitter is innocent, including his brother Wilton, who also played in the majors for a short period.
Guerrero played 16 seasons in the majors for the Expos, Angels, Rangers and Orioles while racking up 2,590 hits, 449 home runs and 1,496 rbi’s and batting a career .318. Guerrero won the AL MVP award with the Angels in 2004, when he hit .337 with 39 home runs and 126 rbi’s.
