Baylor sophomore Perry Jones III is joining a slew of underclassmen to leave school early and enter the NBA Draft, according to Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports.
Many believed Jones would leave Baylor after his freshman season, but Jones returned to the university to improve his draft stock and work on his game. The 6’10″, 235 lb forward averaged 13.5 ppg and 7.6 rpg this past season after averaging 13.9 ppg and 7.2 rpg as a freshman.
Jones is a versatile big man who has flashed the ability to play both in the post as well as the wing. Scouts have questioned Jones’ overall motor and desire at times, but many still have Jones projected as a lottery pick in this year’s draft.
Jones joins an impressive list of early entries that includes Duke freshman Austin Rivers, Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger and Kansas forward Thomas Robinson.
Underclassmen have until April 29th to declare for the draft, although the NCAA’s withdrawal deadline is April 10th. The NBA’s official early entry withdrawal deadline is June 18th. The draft will be held on June 28th in Newark, New Jersey.
