The LSU Tigers held their spring game yesterday afternoon. Here are a few highlights if you’re interested. Among those in attendance in Baton Rouge were NBA Hall of Famer Karl Malone and his son Karl Malone Jr. (aka K.J.), who had been considering the Bayou Bengals. Later on in the day the 6’4″ 290lb offensive guard committed to wear purple & gold and make the SEC school his future home, according to his high school coach.
“He committed with coach (Les) Miles this afternoon, about an hour and a half ago, probably,” [Ben] Haddox said. “It’s something he’s been thinking about. There’s a lot of pressure on these kids, at 16 years old, to make these kinds of decisions, and I think that’s been weighing on him. However, he has handled it great.”
“He came in today open-minded, wanting to keep his options open,” Haddox said. “But I think once he got down here and had the experience he had today, he just felt like this is where he wanted to be.”
Haddox said it was actually the input of some of LSU’s past and present offensive linemen that helped Malone Jr. make his decision.
K.J. is rated #17 at his position and was given a 3-star rating by Rivals.com. He had also reportedly received interest from Oregon, Alabama, Utah, and Stanford. Malone became the third commit in four days for LSU along with Michael Patterson (DE) and Tevin Lawson (DT).
