All-pro veteran safety Brian Dawkins announced via Twitter that he is retiring from the NFL after 16 seasons with the eagles and Bronco:

The Lord has blessed me to play in the NFL for 16 years. I would like to thank the Eagles & the Broncos 4 believing In me. I would like 2 thank all my teammates & Coaches that I have been blessed 2 go to battle with. Along with u, the fans 4 helping make my career 1 that i have enjoyed tremendously. In other words. I am announcing my retirement from the NFL.

Dawkins is one of the best defensive players of the last two decades. He was a 4-time All Pro and named to the Pro Bowl 9 times, eight times as a member of the Eagles. Dawkins also earned a reputation as one of the hardest and most feared hitters in the NFL.

Over the course of his career, Dawkins has accumulated 911 tackles, 26 sacks, 37 interceptions and 36 forced fumbles. Dawkins will be eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame in 2017, five full seasons after his retirement.
