March Madness is great for alot of reasons, among them being the Cinderella stories and occasional upsets no one saw coming. Since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985 no #1 seed has lost to a #16 seed. Today Norfolk State University became just the fifth #15 seed to take down a #2, joining Hampton (2001 over Iowa State), Coppin State (1997 over South Carolina), Santa Clara (1993 over Arizona), and Richmond (1991 over Syracuse).
The Spartans, led by senior Kyle O’Quinn (26 pts & 14 reb), knocked off Frank Haith’s Missouri Tigers in their first round matchup of the West Region in Omaha, Nebraska. Missouri came into the NCAA Tournament ranked #3 in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls, receiving 2 and 1 first place votes respectively. There are times when words can’t and don’t do a moment justice. This is one of those times. So watch the final 2.9 seconds and enjoy #MarchMadness in all its glory.
Norfolk State will face the 7th seeded Florida Gators on Sunday.
