Sad farewell

After moving to upgrade at the point guard position by trading for Ramon Sessions, the Lakers made a shocking move by dealing veteran team leader Derek Fisher to the Houston Rockets for PF Jordan Hill. The Lakers will also send a first round pick to Houston, according to Y! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski. Y! Sports reports that the Rockets may explore a buyout of the remainder of Fisher’s contract.

Hill was a lottery pick in 2009, drafted 8th overall but the Knicks out of Arizona. So far this season Hill has played in 32 games for the Rockets, averaging 5.0 ppg and 4.8 rpg in 14 minutes. Hill adds depth to the Lakers front court behind starters Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.

Losing Fisher’s leadership will be a big loss to the Lakers locker room, but the Lakers clearly have upgraded on the floor. The Lakers are currently 27-16 and third in the Western Conference.
