Friday Kentucky freshman forward Anthony Davis was named the Associated Press Player of the Year. Davis is the second freshman to ever win the award, with Kevin Durant in 2007 as the only other freshman to receive the honor.

Davis received 43 of 65 first place votes for the award. Kansas forward Thomas Robinson was second in the voting with 20 votes, with the final 2 votes going to Michigan State senior Draymond Green.

Davis averaged 14.3 ppg, 10.1 rpg and led the nation with 4.6 blocks per game. The 6’10″ Davis has anchored the Wildcats to a Final Four berth. Kentucky (36-2) will face Louisville (30-9) Saturday in New Orleans for an opportunity to play for the national championship.

Davis is considered a top prospect for the NBA draft is he chooses to declare after the season, with many predicting Davis to go as high as the first overall pick.
