Last month we brought you the news of 2011 American League Cy Young and MVP award winner Justin Verlander endorsing Fastball Flakes cereal. 2010 National League MVP, 2011 Gold Glove Winner, and two-time All-Star first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds Joey Votto has joined the club.
Kroger and the Cincinnati Reds are longtime partners and friends,” Sukanya Madlinger, president of Kroger’s Cincinnati/Dayton division said in a news release. “Being the only grocery store in town where you can purchase a box of VottO’s is really exciting for Kroger as it further solidifies the relationship we’ve spent many years building. We’re proud to offer a quality product that pays homage to one of our hometown sports heroes.”
If you’re not in the Cincinnati/Dayton area VottO’s can be purchased online here. $10.00 will get you two boxes and for $19.00 you can purchase an 18” X 24” lithograph of the artwork on the front of the box. Only 500 pieces designed by sports artist Kevin-John were produced so after reading this you might want to order yours if you want one.
Last year Votto finished 5th in the NL in batting average (.309), tied for 5th in runs scored (101), 6th in runs batted in (103), and hit 29 home runs. With two of the players who finished ahead of him in last year’s MVP voting (Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder) now in the American League another solid season could put Votto in a decent position to capture his second MVP award in three years. The Cincinnati Reds get their 2012 season underway April 4th against the Miami Marlins.
