Even before the starters were announced for this year’s NBA All-Star game to be held in Orlando, FL on February 26th we knew LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant would be taking part. LeBron tallied 1,360,680 votes. Kobe received 1,555,479. 1,345,566 voted for Durant. Nike took the opportunity to create special shoes for all three to wear during their games on Christmas. Team Swoosh is at it once again as designs for their All-Star game shoes have been released.
Taking inspiration from space exploration, the collection features a galactic theme on the LeBron 9, Nike Zoom KD IV and Nike Zoom Kobe VII System. Graphics pay homage to the supernova – arguably the most powerful force in the universe – while the outsoles glow in the dark and individual ‘mission patches’ adorn each shoe as a nod to the accolades astronauts receive.
LeBron James, whose home state of Ohio features more astronauts than any other state, will wear a special version of the LeBron 9 that takes inspiration from the orange space suit. LeBron’s mission patch, an honor astronauts receive from space exploration duties, is a lion shooting through space. Kevin’s colorway is silver and takes inspiration from the silver suit of a notable Oklahoma astronaut, while his mission patch pays tribute to his reign as “H.O.R.S.E.” champion. The mission patch on the heel is a mamba snake as a nod to Kobe.
All three designs will be available at NikeStore.com starting February 25th.
