Plaxico burress 20120228144551 320 240

You may remember a similar story last year after Plaxico Burress was released from prison, but the former Giants and Jets WR has again indicated his desire to play for the Eagles.

In an interview with a Philadelphia radio station, Plaxico said the following:

“Nothing else would make me happier. Obviously, coming to Philadelphia and instituting myself into the offense it just adds a unique dynamic to what’s already in place.”

I actually tend to agree. The Eagles are loaded when it comes to speed on offense and Michael Vick would benefit greatly, in my opinion, from a 6’5″ WR that can go up and get the ball. Add to that the uncertainty surrounding current star WR Desean Jackson and Plaxico could act as a sort of hedge.

Burress went on to say that he believes the Jets want him back, “As far as I understand, they pretty much just left the door open for me to make a decision to come back. I went up there and played just as well as I thought I would. And I did some things a lot of people didn’t think I would do. Rex and Mike Tannenbaum and Woody Johnson, I have nothing but the utmost respect for them.”

Burress lobbied last year to play in Philly (and even wore a Phillies hat as he left prison). The Jets, however, offered a 1 year $3M and change deal to Burress that I’m guessing he just couldn’t turn down after sitting out two years.

It’s unlikely that the Eagles will offer up that kind of money, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Plaxico getting jump balls in Philly red zones next season.
