Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton sat down with ESPN The Magazine as a candidate of this year’s NEXT class. During the interview Newton discussed his displeasure of losing and wanting to change the culture in Carolina to a winning one. Have a listen at what this year’s #1 overall draft choice had to say.

Some may have a problem with Newton’s “get everybody on my level” comment and other things he said but those who share the locker room with him don’t seem to be among them. Long time Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith and head coach Ron Rivera don’t have an issue with anything he said, according to the Charlotte Observer, and I don’t either. Carolina is 4-8 so far this season after finishing last year 2-14. Newton’s Auburn Tigers went undefeated on the way to the BCS Championship last season and he came to the NFL wanting to continue that type success.

Newton has set a single-season NFL record for rushing TD’s by a quarterback with 13. He started out his career throwing for 422 and 432 yards in his first two games so the individual accolades have been there. Unfortunately the win-loss record hasn’t been what Newton hoped for to this point but the Panthers have doubled their win total from last year and have 4 games remaining. As a rookie some might think this is just Newton being young and naive. That might be the case but the Panthers have improved, the team appears to be behind him, and the head coach has his back. Carry on sir.
