If you can talk the talk, you have to walk the walk… welterweight champ Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. has never been shy about wagering large sums of money at Las Vegas sports books. He has a history of posting pictures of his wagers via his Twitter account. Apparently Money Mayweather wasn’t a believer in media darling Tim Tebow, and reportedly placed a $1 million bet that the Broncos would lose to the Patriots in week 15 of the NFL season. Sporting News has the details:
Mayweather reportedly scored a knockout against a Las Vegas casino this month by betting $1 million on Tom Brady’s New England Patriots to beat Tim Tebow’s Denver Broncos.
The Pats throttled the Broncos, 41-23, making Mayweather a six-figure winner whether he bet the point spread (New England was favored by seven points) or took the Pats to win straight up (New England was about a 3.5:1 favorite on the so-called “money line”).
Mike Colbert, sports book director at M Resort, would neither confirm nor deny that Mayweather placed the wager when asked by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He did say the fighter is “a valued customer who frequents the books quite often.”
Mayweather have had his troubles with the law lately and was recently sentenced to 90 days in jail on a domestic violence charge, but a 6-figure payday from betting against Tebow-mania is a pretty nice haul.
And if you want to be critical of how Mayweather spends his money, you should remind yourself that it is his money. He can do with it as he pleases. ”Money Team”, indeed.
