If you’re not a Dallas Cowboys or Chicago Bears fan there’s a chance you don’t know who Sam Hurd is. After being arrested for allegedly trying to purchase a pretty ridiculous amount of drugs from authorities alot of people now know who he is.
Chicago Bears receiver Sam Hurd was arrested Wednesday night outside a Chicago restaurant after he accepted a kilogram of cocaine from a confidential informant and an undercover federal agent posing as a drug supplier, according to federal charges filed Thursday in Dallas. Hurd was charged with one count of conspiring to possess half a kilogram of cocaine with the intent to distribute it.
At the Wednesday night meeting, Hurd negotiated to buy five to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana a week for distribution in the Chicago area, authorities alleged. He agreed to pay $25,000 for each kilogram of cocaine and $450 a pound for the marijuana, according to the charges.
Hurd spent 5 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before signing a 3-year deal with the Bears this past offseason. For his career he has 53 catches for 739 yards and 2 TD’s.
According to the Chicago Tribune Hurd’s base pay this season is $685,000, not bad considering his career high in catches for a season is 19 and came back in 2007. But I guess that’s not good enough for him. Or maybe he’s a fan of the movie Blow. Whatever Hurd’s motivation was it may not have an impact on his ability to wear orange in the near future. We’ll have to wait to see if it’s a jumpsuit or Bears jersey.
