Wide receiver Braylon Edwards announced via his Twitter account and a statement on his personal website that he has been released by the San Francisco 49ers. Here the is the message posted on braylonedwards.com:
I was released today by the 49ers due to my injury that required more time to rehab and hasn’t allowed me to re-sync with the offense. I wish the 49ers organization the best of luck during the Playoffs. I will be working hard this off season to strengthen my knee and prepare for the 2012 season. Thanks for your continued support and for being such loyal fans.
Edwards, 28, was in his first season with the Niners. He was signed in the off-season to a one-year, $1.6 million contract to give the 49ers another weapon in their passing attack but due to injuries Edwards was only able to produce 15 receptions for 181 yards and no touchdowns in 9 games, 5 starts. Edwards injured his right knee in the second game of the season, tearing his meniscus.
Edwards has also played for the Cleveland Browns and NY Jets, compiling 341 receptions for 5,323 and 39 touchdowns in season seasons.
