Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander was the most dominant pitcher in the majors this past season and has been rewarded for his mastery by unanimously winning the AL Cy Young award. Verlander, who lead the majors in wins (24-5) and strikeouts (250) received first place votes on all 28 ballots from the Baseball Writers Of America for 196 points. Angels pitcher Jared Weaver finished second in the voting with a distant 96 points.
Verlander won the AL triple crown by leading the junior circuit in all threw major pitching categories (ERA, wins and strikeouts) and also threw his second career no-hitter against the Blue Jays on May 7th. Verlander is also in the running for the AL MVP award, which will be announced Monday November 21st.
