Besides somehow winning the fan vote to be on the cover of Madden ’12, Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis has been making headlines so far this season for all the wrong reasons. He missed a game earlier this year due to strep throat, has belly-ached about his contract demands and his play on the field has been abysmal. This latest news regarding Hillis isn’t any better, as Hillis reportedly missed an confirmed appearance at a Halloween Charity event for the Boys & Girls Club, leaving 40+ kids disappointed in the process:
Hillis is embroiled in another controversy after allegedly failing to show up for a promoted appearance at the Cleveland Boys and Girls Club on Monday night.
Former Browns lineman LeCharles Bentley, who is on the club’s board, secured a commitment from Hillis’ brother and business agent to appear at a Halloween party at the club on Broadway, said a source. A press release promoting Hillis’ appearance was distributed to media on Friday.
More than 40 boys and girls, some of whom were bused in from other clubs, were on hand, another source said.
On Monday night, Bentley wrote on his Twitter account: “Peyton Hillis looking for 10mil guaranteed from Browns and can’t show up to kids charity event? #ManPlease.”
Hillis definitely isn’t winning over any new fans with his exploits or his play so far this season, nor is he building a strong case for his contract demands from the Browns or any other team for that matter. After Hillis surprised the NFL by rushing for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, he needs to have a complete turnaround to his 2011 campaign to garner contract offers anywhere close to the $10 mil he has been demanding.
I’m just saying, you can do better Peyton.
