Still taking shots at Kobe....

After the Goodman League defeated the Drew League earlier this month in D.C. the talks of a rematch in L.A. quickly started. Goodman League commish Miles Rawls certainly didn’t do anything to squash the rumor when he said:

Said Rawls on the prospect of bringing the Goodman group to Southern California to face off against Bryant and company in their own backyard: “I don’t care who plays. We’re coming.”

Seeing as how Kobe stopped by the Drew League recently, and hit a game winner, it seemed only natural there was talk he could feature in the rematch in California. While most players would probably be thrilled to have Kobe on their team one in particular doesn’t appear to be.

Well we certainly know how serious Brandon Jennings takes playing for the Drew League squad. No L.A. heritage = No “Drew Crew” t-shirt for you Mr. Bryant.

On one hand I can understand where Jennings is coming from. He feels the squad representing the L.A. based Drew League should be composed of players from the area, and I can’t get mad at him for that. But there are exceptions to rules. Whether or not the tweet is missing something Jennings said I can’t say so I’m going to take it at face value, and I see #ShotsFired again in the direction of #24.

No one can argue, not even Jennings, that Kobe has certainly made his mark on the L.A. basketball landscape. He’s helped bring 5 Larry O’Brien Trophies to Los Angeles. He’s also the leading scorer in Lakers history. Kobe may not have hooped in the same high school gyms as Jennings, Tayshaun Prince, DeMar DeRozan, and James Harden, but he’s made himself as much a part of the fabric of L.A. basketball as anyone.

Jennings hasn’t been running for chairman of the Kobe fan club as of late, the shirt he’s wearing in the above picture tells us that. There was a rumor that Nick Young didn’t participate in the first Drew-Goodman game as a form of protest for not being named the league’s MVP, after averaging 40 ppg, which he would later deny as the reason for his absence. If there is a Drew-Goodman II and Kobe Bryant does suit up for Team Drew can we expect Jennings to make a stand and not participate? We’ll see.
