Brad Kaselowski’s Inspiration To Drive With A Broken Ankle Came From Navy SEALs

Whether you follow NASCAR or not you’ve probably heard by now that Brad Kaselowski won yesterday’s race at Pocono with a broken ankle. He was injured when he collided with a wall at roughly 100mph last week while testing his Sprint Cup car at Road Atlanta in preparation for the upcoming race at Watkins Glen.

If you’re not a NASCAR fan you probably missed his post-race press conference where he spoke about what motivated him to take the wheel. Kaselowski referenced the 30 armed forces members (some of which were Navy SEALs) who died when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan.

I heard comparisons today of Kaselowski’s victory to Willis Reed, Kerri Strug, Curt Schilling, and just about any other athlete you can think of who played/excelled injured. Whether or not what he did fits into the same discussion is probably best left for another post. One thing we do know is why he proudly displayed the American flag.
