Yesterday was not a good day for the Chicago White Sox, and in particular manager Ozzie Guillen. The bullpen spoiled a quality start from John Danks and the winning run scored for Kansas City via a wild pitch in the bottom of the 11th inning. The game was almost a microcosm of the season so far for the pale hose.
The bullpen has been the Achilles heel of the team for most of the season, the 12 blown saves speaks to that. In 33 at-bats the Sox mustered just 5 hits (.151), which makes their .255 team average for the season look Ty Cobb like. The wild pitch Chris Sale threw to plate Alex Gordon for the winner was the 38th for the pitching staff this year, tying Chicago for the 6th most in the majors.
To make Ozzie’s night worse, he was hit in the face by a foul ball in the 8th inning.
Add all that together and what do you get? This…
