So I’m gradually learning that no matter how strange I think some things that happen here in the U.S. are, they often pale in comparison to what takes place in other countries. Take China as an example. To mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party in China they held the “Communist Olympics“. The “games” ran from June 26th through the 28th.
Among the events held were grenade throwing and carrying explosives. None of the ammunition used was live, but still. Then there was the “Storming the Blockhouse” event, which involved a 5m crawl under barbed wire and a 50m trek through a minefield of traffic cones.
The games were made in an attempt to boost the people’s ‘revolutionary spirit’ in the midst of social tensions.
I’m all for patriotism and raising “revolutionary spirit” so whatever gets the job done I’m all in.
It would be interesting to incorporate barbed wire into swimming and see how Michael Phelps would navigate through that. I wonder how fast Usain Bolt is carrying a pole on his shoulders? I would be lying if I said I wasn’t curious what the record for the furthest flung grenade is, no luck finding out though.
