Remember when you were younger and your mom would come to your games and scream louder than every other mom there? Or maybe she came to your dance recital and stood up and clapped when you were done so everyone knew that was your mom. As embarrassing as you thought your mom was she probably didn’t drool over your opponents. That’s essentially what Judy Murray, the mother of #4 ranked men’s tennis player Andy Murray, did.
Andy’s mom is on Twitter; oh the age we live in. When your mom or dad get on Twitter it’s probably cringe time if you’re over the age of 25. Andy probably cringed when he saw his mom tweet this:
Judy’s eye candy is 29 year-old Spanish tennis player Feliciano Lopez. You like the way she did the play on words there and turned Feliciano into Deliciano, clever huh? Lopez hasn’t had a glittering career to this point, but that’s of no matter to mother Murray. His highest ever ranking was 20th, back in January 2005. His highest finish in a Grand Slam event was reaching the quarterfinals of Wimbledon twice (2005 & 2008). He does have one title as a doubles player, but a less-than-stellar 91-120 record when playing with a partner.
Andy was less than pleased to hear of mom’s infatuation with the Spaniard:
“I think it’s about time she stopped that nonsense. Makes me want to throw up. It’s disgusting.”
“I was practicing with him before the tournament and my mum was on the side. I shouted across the net, I said, ‘Feli, if we sit down for a drink, could you take a picture with my mum, because she thinks you’re beautiful?”
“She went bright red. Refused to take the picture. Quite funny. Not like her.”
As an added subplot, the way the Wimbledon brackets are shaping up Murray could meet Lopez in the quarterfinals. Imagine if Lopez would advance to a semifinal for the first time in a Grand Slam event by defeating Murray. Would Judy be happy for him or upset for her son?
