Gary Neal is not your typical rookie. The guy is 26 years old in his first NBA season, so you would think at his age he would know not to make the same mistake twice. Remember back when he attempted (and failed) to take a charge from J.R. Smith & his “Young Money” tattoo? Well Neal decided he would step in front of last season’s ROY Tyreke Evans to draw a charge foul. Bad idea:
Neal may be gutsy for putting his body at risk for the sake of an offensive call, but sometimes reality has no sympathy for the brave-hearted. I bet Tyreke’s eyes lit up when he saw Neal casually slide into the lane to draw a charge as visions of Sportscenter “Top Plays” danced around in his head.
Gary, next time you see a “youngster” approaching the lane at full steam, move out of the way. We’ll all understand.
